Still Recuperating!

It's August already, and that means I'm nearly three months done here, with two more months to take in all I can.  With my injured right leg, I've slowed down a little, avoiding hiking in changing elevations.  So more of my activities in this blog have been sedentary.

  • We have been working in the clouds lately.  On Saturday, our view from the store was totally whiteness.  The drives up/down the mountains have been breath-taking at times.

  • Twelve of us went to the Rockies/Marlins game @ Coors Field, and witnessed Ichiro's 3000th hit.  Only 30 players belong to this elite club.

  • I was one of several thousand Christians who stayed for a post-game concert performed by Crowder.

  • I enjoyed an electric guitar synthesist performing his music @ YMCA of the Rockies.
  • I drove to Longmont and visited TARGET, Cheese Imports (where they had some Wisconsin cheese curds that DIDN'T squeak, but I bought some wonderful Danish Dill Havareti cheese), and 300 Suns Brewery (server was from Racine who came here to learn more about the craft brewery industry).

  • Oskar Blues Brewing was a stop in Lyons where I sampled some new beers and enjoyed a new appetizer, pergodies, which my Polish colleagues say they enjoy in their homeland.

  • Berthoud Brewing Company and City Stars Brewing were two more sampling stops I made.
  • I traveled some backroads to visit Carter Lakes Reservoir, Flatirons Reservoir and Pinewood Reservoir before finding my way to Big Thompson Canyon.  Forty years ago in 1976, this area had a major flood that killed more than 100 people.

  • Discovering more of what Estes Park had to offer involved a hike to the Birch Ruins, which gave me unique views of the area.

  • My boss invited several of us to a delicious steak dinner at her place, serving us some fabulous wine, Trefethen, from Napa Valley.

  • One of my colleagues has worked at Trail Ridge Store for about 15 years, and she loves to bake pies, so the more aged co-workers and I enjoyed peach, cherry and apple pies at her home.
  • Rejecting eating in our employee dining hall, three of us dined out and enjoyed MOSCOW MULES.
  • I finished another book, but now have been absorbed with the 2016 Rio Olympics - the athletes are so inspiring.
  • As always, I'm enjoying rainbows, sunrises, sunsets and the clouds.

I've heard that the Midwest weather has been brutal with high temps and unbearable humidity levels.  I hope you have survived.  Our business is booming as the Front Range has been hot, so the Coloradans are escaping the heat and humidity by traveling to the mountains.

Enjoy these dog days of summer!  Hopefully you're grilling out and have a cool drink in your hand, with family and friends.  Keep sending me stories of your summer!

With love from Rocky Mountain National Park,
Amy
